ECO-Assistant is taking off
alt 2010/04/29, The ECO-Assistant is a new consulting product provided by GL’s FutureShip to increase the operational fuel efficiency of existing ships with limited investment. An on-board tool provides the crew the optimum trim for every operating condition. This is a unique and informative service as there is no single optimum trim for a vessel but it depends on the operating parameters. Typically the crew can increase the operational fuel efficiency by an average of 3-5%. The ECO-Assistant supports the translation of environmental and fuel efficiency awareness into real savings by providing the crew with practical information on how fuel can be saved.

While the technology has recently been discussed with great interest at a forum of international experts (see www.compit.info), FutureShip already delivered ECO-Assistants to major German and foreign shipping companies and successfully installed the system on vessels ranging from container carriers, MPVs, product carriers, bulkers to VLCCs. Testimonials from the crews are very positive emphasising that they trim the vessel differently now because of the optimum trim information provided by the ECO-Assistant and that they notice a performance increase or accordingly a reduction in fuel consumption.
